Rolex 24 at Daytona

Postby Sean on Sat Jan 26, 2008 3:36 pm

Yeah, ARCA has to be the place to develop now.

CTS has become very much like the Busch Series. Although it's not infiltrated with Cup regulars, it IS infiltrated with past Cup regulars (excluding Skinner, Sprague, and Hornaday who are mainstays, there's still Bodine, Musgrave, Benson, Bliss, Compton, sometimes Steve Park and whoever else), and it's hard to develop there anymore either, but not as hard as Busch... We'll see if Nationwide cleans it up.

On ARCA....I really do not know much but a local guy Marc Mitchell was in ARCA last year and is going to drive trucks this year. Maybe Bubba can fill me in more on what he thinks.

I am just fixing to turn on the Rolex. We have been at the emergency vet with one of our dogs most of the middle of the day so I missed the start.

I will check in on this thread from time to time though.

The Ganassi 01 car has not surprisingly been leading for the past three hours. Montoya was leading by as much as 6 laps. Now it's down to 3 laps, as the 99 of Gurney/Fogarty/Johnson/Vasser has been gaining ground. Less than one hour remains.

We were the first to interview Mitchel, Bingo, you should read our site lol.

He's kind of a cold fish in a way, but not everyone is "Mr. Personality" and i don't mean that in a bad way. He got an opportunity to run 4 races with the Cunningham team ie dodge development equipment. I can't remember off hand if there is a family connection to his sponsor, but they support him well. His PR guy is really nice and helpful. Marc's results did not reflect his abilities. He seemed to be a magnet for idiots a lap or so down to be attracted to. He usually ran top10 or top 5 until some idiot would nail jhim or he had a mechanical problem. Unless I'm mistaken, he also ran a couple of Busch races last year as well.

I think he could do well with a top team if he ever gets that chance.

I see McDowell is back in the top 10 but I haven't seen a graphic yet which shows how far down they are.

McDowell is 43 laps down in 14th overall, 9th among the Daytona Prototypes. The gap for the lead seems to be almost, but not quite 3 laps. With 13 minutes left, it looks like the podium's been decided.

1. Franchitti/Montoya/Pruett/Rojas - 685 laps
2. Fogarty/Gurney/Johnson/Vasser - 683 laps
3. Briscoe/Busch/Castroneves - 679 laps

More proof that Ganassi and Penske dominate everything except Cup. Nice showing for the Cup drivers. All four of the full-time active Cup drivers for this season are in the top three.

Wow, 43 laps down? That's not bad considering they lost a wheel on the race track lol.

Ganassi clinches. 5 minutes left and an almost 3 lap lead, with a lap time of 1:45. Winning this three times in a row has to be quite difficult, given the number of competitive entries and the number of things that can go wrong...

And JPM still has never lost a Rolex or Indy 500, even if he has been driving the best equipment on the track. Now if he can turn Ganassi's program into a championship contender, he really is the next Mario Andretti...

I'd love to see JPM in Le Mans equipment.

LMAO about Marc Mitchell being a cold fish. I do not know the kid, but I am very familiar with his father who owns a large paving contracting firm. His dad is a fiery little bantam rooster type of guy ala Cale Yarborough. I guess I figured Marc would be one of those types too. Thanks for the response, Bubba. :)
